Recruiting Report: Kevin Davet (2019)
High academic programs from the Ivy League and Patriot League have taken notice of a blossoming 6’9” center from St. Ignatius, Kevin Davet (2019).
“Specifically, I could say Princeton, Cornell, Lafayette, and Holy Cross,” Davet mentioned as schools he’s talked with.
Following a strong spring with All Ohio Black, Davet made his way out to a couple team camps for the first weekend in June.
“I went to the Princeton elite camp and the Lafayette camp. Got to get on campus and talk to the coaches a little bit, so that’s good,” Davet said.
Davet maintains a 4.23 GPA and scored a 1470 on the SAT, including 780 on the math portion. He’ll look to study “some sort of STEM field,” but isn’t 100 percent on which major he’ll settle on. On top of academics, there are other factors involved in his decision also.
“It was always a dream of mine to play D-I ball, I’m sure like a lot of people. Really I’m trying to find that’s a good fit academically, a good fit for basketball, and a good fit for me,” Davet said.
He hit a stride in April and May in the basketball part of that equation. Davet continually made plays when he caught it inside, mostly on aggressive post moves. He’s also able to hit mid-range jumpers and control the glass.
“I definitely think that I’m having a very good spring. I’ve made some big improvements during the last fall and winter. So I think it’s putting those improvements in practice into real game use and showing it on the court has really been helping,” Davet said.
The journey doesn’t stop here though, as Davet is now working on other parts of his game.
“Specifically, I’m trying to improve my outside game. If I can develop a pick-and-pop sort of thing with a 3-point shot, I think that’d be huge. Even coming out to the wing and taking somebody off the dribble,” Davet said.
He’s also working on intangible skills as a senior with St. Ignatius.
“This year, I’m really going to try to be a leader on the court for my teammates,” Davet mentioned. “That’s really how it is every year: seniors leave and guys step up.”
Davet continued by providing insight into the Ignatius system, one of the most consistent basketball regimes in Northeast Ohio.
“Every year we’re a good shooting team, we’re good with discipline, we execute our plays, we prioritize defense. So I think that sets us apart from other teams,” Davet explained.
In their one outing this June, they took home the gold at the Marietta team camp. Going forward, you can continue to see Davet play with All Ohio Black in July.
