Recruiting Report: Kamdyn Curfman (2019)
Class of 2019 point guard Kamdyn Curfman is preparing for a major role this season at Georgetown Prep. We’ve seen him have some big games in past years, but if his performances at Capitol Hoops Summer League are any indication, we should expect him to put up consistently strong numbers throughout his senior season. Curfman explained his increased role and spoke on his recruitment among other topics during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
PH: Which schools are recruiting you the hardest right now?
KC: “I’m not sure. It’s mostly Ivy League and Patriot League. A variety of schools.”
PH: I know you have an offer from American. Do they still keep in contact with you?
KC: “Yes. They do.”
PH: Talk about your role this year. What are you trying to do with this team?
KC: “Definitely leading the team. Being the primary ball handler. More vocal. Being a leader. That’s really what we need this year. People that step up. Be leaders. It’s not just me, it’s gotta be everyone. Making sure my voice is contagious. My defense and my intensity should be contagious.”
PH: What was the biggest thing you learned during last season?
KC: “I understand what it takes to win a championship. It’s a lot of hard work day in and day out. You’ve gotta be consistent. Even during practice, you’ve gotta be early. Get shots up. You gotta make sure your skills are still there throughout the season. You gotta be hitting the weight rooms throughout the season. It’s a long grind, but I understand what it takes now.”
PH: What do you hope to accomplish during the summer league?
KC: “Just being aggressive. More aggressive than last year. I had to defer a little bit, and I understand why. We had so many great players. Just being more aggressive. Stepping up. I’m taking most of the big shots this year. That wasn’t how it was last year.”
PH: What’s the most underrated part of your overall game?
KC: “Probably defense. I’m a little more stingy than people thing. I’m tough on defense.”
PH: What do you need to work on?
KC: “Keep on getting to the rim. I can always shoot threes. I can always count on those to go in, but making sure I get to the rim and keeping the defense honest.”
PH: I know you recently visited Lafayette. Any others coming up this summer?
KC: “I’m trying to figure out dates for Columbia, and maybe Brown. I’ll see what other schools I can go to.”
PH: What do you think you can bring to a college program?
KC: “Definitely range. You’re getting an underrated defender. Someone that can make really good decisions with the ball. Get other people involved. I think that’s what every college should be looking for.”
