Recruiting Report: Julian Smith (2019)
After having to sit out the playoffs and entire spring with a leg injury many have forgotten Julian Smith. This July Smith intends to wake up all who are sleeping and remind them he can score the basketball at a high level. Smith is excited and ready to get back on the basketball court.
“My goals this summer is to finish strong when I get back,” said Smith. “I want to leave it all out there. I do not want to look back and wish I could have done anything different.”
Smith is a talented Point Guard at 5’11 thriving as a high volume shooter with the skills to heat up quickly. The quickness, handles, and jumper of Smith standout. Smith has a great idea of what he is looking for in a college.
“The things I am looking for in a school are coaches I can trust,” said Smith. “ I want a staff around me that actually cares about me as a person, not just a player.”
Schools that have kept in touch with Smith include FIU, Kent State, North Texas, Wichita State and Missouri State. Prep Hoops projects Smith to the Low to Mid Major NCAA Division I level. He could be a player that drops to a JUCO for a year or two. The timing of his injury could not have come at a worse point in his high school career in terms of his recruitment.
One thing I know about Smith is he is resilient. The challenge awaiting him of will be welcomed by a player who works hard at his craft. Smith has the dawg to his game that coaches love to see. He will run through a wall to win games.
The biggest areas Smith must show improvement to coaches this summer is having a better feel for the game, playing hard on defense at all times, and do what he does best make shots.
Smith fell off a lot of peoples radars but is ready to jump back on the scene this July.
