Recruiting Report: Jonathan Lawrence (2019)
Jonathan Lawrence was a true bright spot for Lake Howell a season ago.
Despite a 3-19 record, the 6’9″, 190-pounder was still able to stand out and put up consistent efforts. The 2019 forward has five offers currently from UCF, Navy, Army, Presbyterian and Southeast Missouri.
Lawrence says colleges like his ability as a stretch four.
He discussed his junior season.
“We didn’t have the best season last year because we graduated eight seniors and were really young,” Lawrence told Prep Hoops. “I went from playing four minutes a game my sophomore year to almost never coming out my junior year. Now, being the oldest on my team I had to take more of a leadership role. I grew, gained weight and am now a much better inside presence as well as improving my shot.”
Lawrence has spent the last two years playing for Q6 All Stars Elite. He says this summer has been really great.
In terms of his biggest strengths, he pointed to his ability to stretch the floor with his shot, be a true defensive presence as a shot blocker and serve as a pick and roll/pop player.
He says he wants to continue to improve his ballhandling skills and perimeter defensive skills.
A smart kid, Lawrence uses his vision and length to his advantage throughout high school and AAU games. You can see his advances offensively from last year to now. He’s always in good positions defensively and can hold his own there now with his added muscle. I fully expect to his recruitment to pick up more in July and in the fall.
