Recruiting Report: Jeremy Beckler (2019)
White Bear Lake took a big step in 2017-18 and expects a 20 win year and to contend for league/section next winter. Top 25-35 prospect Jeremy Beckler is one of the seniors ready to lead the way.
The Bears improved by nine games this winter pushing their record to 15-12 on the year and most of the talent at White Bear Lake returns.
“We have a lot of players returning that played varsity last year,” Beckler said. “The whole starting lineup will be seniors along with one or two on the bench. We expect to do even better than what we did last year and make it farther than the first round in the sections, maybe even the championship or state. But East Ridge will be a very tough opponent.
“The senior class of Sam Schwartz, Isaac Tessier, Mathias Beck, Carter Ehlers, Steven Kleist, and myself is strong.”
Section 4AAAA is loaded and that is where White Bear Lake is. Half of the teams in the section are top ten in state candidates next year and others that lost talent still have good foundations as programs. East Ridge will be a state title contender for sure but don’t count out Cretin-Derham Hall. The Raiders have a few guys back from last year’s team, good young talent and are adding quality transfers.
Then you have Tartan who will bring most of their guys back and the same can be said for St. Paul Central who could have a special season. Woodbury and North St. Paul graduated some excellent seniors but they won’t fall as far as you think. Then you have White Bear Lake led by Jeremy Beckler who put up 19.4 points and 7.1 rebounds a game last season and is only getting better.
“I want to be able to do more perimeter stuff on both offense and defense,” Jeremy said. “I am already able to shoot and drive pretty well but if I can get better in both of those aspects, I will be a very well-rounded offense player. On defense, I want to become quicker so I am able to guard more types of players if a switch were to happen in the middle of a play.”
Beckler has had college coaches watching his games in big numbers this spring. He’s putting in a strong effort to see what college program fits him the best.
“I have had division three and some division two schools talk to me along with going to camps at the University of Chicago and Augustana,” Beckler said. “I will be going to multiple schools throughout the summer. I don’t know how many camps I will be attending.
“I’m in solid conversations with most of the MIAC schools, and many WIAC schools. I’ve received some early Division two interest and will be going to the Augustana camp.”
Beckler loves playing with Minnesota Heat Henderson who is 18-10 on the season right now heading into the summer months of play.
“The unity of this team is incredible. We have strong relationships that help us on the court. Especially on our trip to Omaha, we were able to chill at our hotel and in between games. It is a very good experience to just be around the team.”
What’s next for Heat Henderson? Beckler closed with the following .
“We want to finish within the top 15 in the state and just give it our all,” Beckler said. “We obviously want to win games, but we have to work hard for that to happen and work together. And now that the season is getting closer to the end, we want to finish the year off on a high note.”
