Recruiting Report: Jake Kettner (2019)
Jake Kettner of Minnesota Valley Lutheran is a top 25-30 level player in the state of Minnesota and everything he’s done throughout his junior year has proved his talent.
Kettner nearly led MVL to 20 wins with an average of 22.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game this past winter as a junior. Jake has big expectations for his team to take big steps this summer and have a strong winter.
“We bring back many young players from last year including Matt Munsen, Jace Marotz, Dunwa Omot, and Mason Cox,” Kettner said. “I think our expectations for the high school season are high, we have a good chance to make a deep playoff run and hopefully a state tournament appearance.”
There are some name programs that MVL has to find a way to beat but for Jake he’s looking at himself for ways that he can get better so the team can be better.
“Individually I would like to continue to get stronger and work on my consistency from behind the three point line,” Kettner said.
Another thing that Jake is doing to improve is playing 17u basketball with D1 Minnesota Rise who has won just over half of their 27 games played.
“Some of my top moments from this spring/summer have been just practicing with some of my best friends every week and competing with them on the weekends,” Kettner said.
“I think we’re just starting to play our best basketball. We just beat a pretty good Heat Macdonald team, and played Mentality Minnesota very close. Our chances are pretty good to compete for a championship in an upcoming tournament soon.”
Jake’s been so impressive with the Rise program that a quality group of schools is in contact about camps and playing in the future.
“Palm Beach Atlantic University and U of Mary have been in contact most recently,” Jake said. “I visited Minnesota-Crookston last Wednesday and they are also showing interest.
And I plan to attend the Augustana Elite camp and the Minnesota State-Mankato elite camp. I’ve also heard from St Cloud State.”
