Recruiting Report: Drew Manning (2020)
Collegiate’s Drew Manning is having a big 16u AAU season after a strong sophomore campaign for one of last year’s biggest surprises. Collegiate made a run to the All “A” state tournament in Richmond after a huge 23 win season. Manning describes himself as a great outside shooter, “My biggest strengths are my outside shooting, basketball IQ and leadership. I have great footwork when coming off screens and shooting the ball or creating for myself off the bounce or setting up a teammate. I have been working on improving my speed, strength and ball handling. I have really been working on driving to the basket and finishing or drawing fouls.” Drew was very happy with his Sophomore season for the Titans, “We finished 23-8 and made the All-A tournament and set a record for most wins in a season. Individually, I was 2nd in the city of Louisville with 66 three pointers made, averaged 8 ppg and made the 26th District All-District Team.”
Manning is preparing for a big Junior campaign by putting together a strong 16u AAU season. He’s playing for his dad as a part of the Louisville Prospects program, “Our season has been up and down due to injuries. I am averaging 15ppg and have had 2 games where I have scored 31 pts and made 7 three pointers in each of those games. I’m shooting 48% from 3 and 95% from the line. We will finally be healthy in July and I am excited to finish the summer strong.” His play so far earned him an invite to Asbury’s Elite camp last weekend after attending elite camp at Georgetown College last summer. He expects his strong AAU season to carry over to his play at Collegiate this season,”My ability to shoot the ball from deep, drive to the basket and my leadership is something that will carry over to the high school season.”
As Drew Manning gears up for his third year of varsity at Collegiate, he has clear goals in mind, “Our team goals are to go back to the All A and to make it to Regionals. Individually, my goals are to make the All 7th Region Team and lead the city of Louisville in 3 pointers made.” Last season Manning averaged 8.3 points per game on 28.8% shooting. If Manning can become a more efficient scorer and rebound the ball better than he did in his sophomore season (Manning averaged 1 rebound per game), he can definitely be a major force in the 7th region and lead his team back to the All A state tournament. Drew will have his third head coach in three seasons at Collegiate and he will certainly be counted on to provide leadership for the Titans. For Collegiate to duplicate or even improve their results from a season ago, Drew Manning will need to make a big leap as a Junior. He’s been working and waiting for the opportunity and is primed for a big season.
