Recruiting Report: Dante Maddox (2020)
Bloom 2020 Dante Maddox is a 6’2” shooting guard that can really fill it up from deep. Best as spot up shooter from three that when in rhythm is one of the premier shooters in his class. Mixes in a transition finish on occasion and can score some off the bounce. Would like to see him continue to diversify his game and show more lead guard skills as a passer at his height. Definitely a D1 prospect with his ability to score it.
How was his sophomore season at Bloom?
“All in all it went pretty good. I started off a little slow. I had a tremendous turnaround the second half of the year. One of the biggest reason for the slow start was our point guard Donovan Newby was hurt so our rhythm was thrown off. Once we got our chemistry got flowing it was really easy for all three of us with me, Donovan, and Keshawn Williams.”
This spring he is running with the Mac Irvin Fire 16U.
“It has gone pretty well. We are still trying to gel. We have a lot of talent. We saw in the EYBL that we can play with anyone. It is mostly when to do stuff and when to shoot the right shot.”
He spoke about what he feels he can bring to a college team at the next level.
“At the next level I believe my scoring ability will translate immediately. I think I can score in bunches. Scoring anyway possible. At the rim and finishing athletically. Hitting the pull up or the open three. Usually when I get hot I get hot.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“Earlier this year Michigan and Marquette watched us play. I have an offer from SIU. Illinois State is showing interest. Also Valpo.”
Southern Illinois was the first school to extend a scholarship offer.
“I went there for a visit. It wasn’t exactly what I expected. It was way more than I expected. One thing I know is if I went there they would put me in a good situation for me. I like what I have seen so far.”
