Recruiting Report: Alex Fitch (2019)
We recently saw Alex Fitch, a class of 2019 shooting guard for Rock Ridge, erupt for 36 points and 7 rebounds in a win at the Flint Hill Summer League. The 6-foot-4 sharpshooter, who has worked hard to improve his all-around game, looks ready to emerge from his sleeper status in July. Fitch explained the improvements he’s made to his overall game and talked recruitment during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
PH: Talk about the difference in confidence you have going into this year vs. last.
AF: “I mean, I’ve just been working on my game a lot. Definitely helping my teammates. Trying to just play better as a team.”
PH: You don’t think you’ve gotten more confident in the past year?
AF: “It’s just work. I just keep working. I’ve gotten more confident. I think it’s just maturity too.”
PH: You’re a lot more vocal than I remember. What inspired you to talk more on the court?
AF: “That’s what everybody’s been telling me. All my coaches have been telling me I need to talk more. I just see that’s always what they do at the next level. Watching those next level guys, it’s what I need to do in order to get there.”
PH: What schools are recruiting you the hardest right now?
AF: “Probably Brown. Princeton is recruiting me some. Also Rice, Lafayette, Presbyterian, and Radford.”
PH: Have you visited any schools recently?
AF: “I’ve visited Lafayette, Princeton, and CNU.”
PH: What type of feedback are you getting from college coaches right now?
AF: “They definitely like how I can shoot it.”
PH: What do you think is underrated about your game?
AF: “I’d say my defense. I used to be a below average defender, but I’ve been working hard. I don’t think I get enough credit for how much my defense has improved.”
PH: What makes you a good defender?
AF: “I’m long, and if I get beat I can still make a play on the ball.”
PH: How are your grades?
AF: “My grades are good. I have a 3.7, and I’m still waiting on my results.”
PH: What do you hope to accomplish this summer?
AF: “I would like to get some division one offers. Visit some campuses, and figure out what I want to do.”
PH: What do you think you can bring to a college program?
AF: “Definitely shooting. A positive attitude. I’m really vocal, and I can do whatever a coach needs me to do.”
