Prospect Update: Tyreke Locure (2019)
DES MOINES — Tyreke Locure left Friday afternoon for South Alabama without a scholarship offer. He returned to Des Moines as a Jaguars commit.
“Been a long time coming,” the Des Moines North senior wrote on social media. “Blessed to announce I’ll be committing to the university of South Alabama. Thanks to coach (Richie) Riley and the staff for putting me and my family in the best position possible to reach my goals and dreams.”

Locure, a 5-foot-10 point guard, picked South Alabama over interest from the likes of Drake, Middle Tennessee State and Minnesota. He initially was scheduled to play in front of the Gophers staff at their camp last weekend before electing to take an official visit to Mobile, which is just a short drive from his native New Orleans.
“I know they believe in me,” Locure told PHIA on Friday before his visit while watching his Polar Bear teammates compete at the Grand View team camp. “I know it’s a great school because the people I’ve talked to about it, they say the conference is amazing.
“The head coach who just got hired, a lot of people love him and say he takes care of his guys.”
Locure averaged 28.1 points last season as a junior for North while shooting 47.4 percent from the floor and 32.1 percent from 3-point range. He also had 166 assists against 83 turnovers.
His commitment to South Alabama comes on the heels of a spring circuit session with Beyond Ball.
“Spring was amazing, especially with Beyond Ball,” Locure said. “Spring was probably one of the best times I had my whole AAU career.”
With his commitment secured, Locure can now shift his focus this summer to simply continuing to improve.
“Just really working on my game, being around my guys,” he said Friday. “This is my last time playing AAU so I want to go out with a bang, and that’s what I plan on doing.”
