Prospect Update: Trey Stewart (2019)
It’s been a big year for American Fork point guard Trey Stewart.
He jumped considerably in Utah’s most recent 2019 prospect rankings, all the way up to No. 10, and picked up his first Division I offer earlier this spring.
Improving everyday, Stewart mentioned to PHUT what is is he’s been working on over the past several months as he continues to progress as a player.
“I’ve been working on shooting off the dribble, just pull-up jumpers and pull-up 3s, things like that. A big emphasis for me has been finishing at the rim, going up and dunking things like that, just finishing above the rim,” said Stewart.
Although he had a strong individual season with American Fork as a junior, the team didn’t perform as well as he would have liked.
“Our team wasn’t as successful as I would have liked it to be, but that’s just how it ends up sometimes,” said Stewart. “My role was to be a leader on the court, and get other people going. And when I needed to step up, I stepped up.”
A state title is the goal next season for Stewart and Co., but first he has a huge summer ahead with Exum Elite 17u. The team qualified for the adidas Gauntlet Finals in New York, they’ll head to The Big Apple in July.
“It’s going to be a good opportunity to go to New York and play against the best teams in the country. I feel like we can maybe make a run, we got some really good guys on our team,” said Stewart.
College coaches will be all around at the Gauntlet Finale in New York. Right now, he’s been seeing interest come in from UC-Davis, Colorado State and Denver.
Last month, Utah Valley was the first D1 program to offer the talented point guard.
“I really like their coaching staff, they have amazing coaches there, and it was really fun to get to know them and talk to them. I’m excited to see what their program will do in the future,” said Stewart.
After his summer is complete, he’ll evaluate his options, and he hopes to make a college decision sometime before the winter.
“I’m just looking to find a place that fits me best, and I‘d like to make a decision before the high school season,” said Stewart. “That way I can just focus on basketball and winning a state championship”
