Prospect Update: Cole Bajema (2019 Lynden Christian)
Every spring there are certain players who explode onto the scene. This year, that individual may very well be Cole Bajema. The dynamic 6-foot-7 guard from Lynden Christian was already on people’s radar, but this spring he has really drawn the attention of many with his play with Friends of Hoop Seattle in AAU ball and collegiate offers have started to come in as a result.
“Spring ball has been really good, I feel like I’ve been shooting the ball pretty well, and I’ve surprised a few people with my athleticism and passing ability,” Bajema said. “I need to work on my overall strength, being able to take a hit from the bigger players.”
Bajema’s rare combination of size and skill as a backcourt player have been the key things that coaches have fallen in love with. Schools such as San Francisco, Santa Clara, Eastern Washington, and Montana State have stepped up with scholarship offers and others such as Pepperdine have shown heavy interest. Also in touch has been Michigan, which recently hosted Bajema on a visit for camp.
“So far I am really enjoying the recruiting process,” Bajema said. “I’ve taken visits to San Francisco, Santa Clara, Pepperdine, and Michigan and I’ve learned a lot from each and everyone of them. Great experiences.”
Bajema noted that he doesn’t have any leaders at this time, but will continue to take visits with the goal of making a decision this fall before school starts. Until then, he’ll put his focus on rejoining Friends of Hoop for the rest of the summer.
“My goals for July is just to compete as hard as I can, and have fun doing it,” Bajema said. “As far as offers go I’m just trying to find the best fit. I would say I’m looking for a school that not only wants to win but players have a very good relationship with the coaches.”
