Prospect Spotlight: Tanner Hayhurst (2020)
A top prospect in Idaho’s 2020 class, 6-foot-5 shooting guard Tanner Hayhurst has a big July ahead of him, and could see his recruitment swell.
With great size and ability to pair, Hayhurst — Idaho’s 12th-ranked 2020 — is a guy that college coaches will certainly be paying attention to.
“I’m a pretty good shooter, I space the floor pretty well. If I got a smaller dude on me, I can usually take him down low, just being a bigger guard,” said Hayhurst during a recent phone interview.
He recently finished his sophomore season at Eagle, where he was a starter all season long.
“This season started pretty rough, the first 10 games we weren’t doing great but we turned it around mid-season. I started every game, so I had a pretty big role with the team,” he said.
And after a strong sophomore campaign with the Mustangs, he played well during the spring with Idaho Select.
As a result, he’s already fielded calls from two local college programs.
“With recruiting, they couldn’t really talk to me officially until earlier this month. And then I got a call from Idaho State, their assistant coach. Also, the director of basketball operations at Idaho,” said Hayhurst.
“And I’ve gotten some camp invites in emails for and things like. That’s it for now.”
He’s hoping to see that recruitment spike come late summer, when he’ll again be playing with one of the areas best AAU teams, Idaho Select 16U.
“It’s a really good opportunity with Idaho Select, spring went really well,” he said. “I’m just looking forward to this summer, looking forward to play in front of college coaches, show them what I can do and stuff like that.”
