Prospect Spotlight: Mac Tarver (2019)
The goal this summer for Mac Tarver is not out of the ordinary: get a D1 offer.
A 6-foot-1 guard from Judge Memorial, Tarver hasn’t heard from any high-level college coaches. But he’s hoping that with a big 17U summer, that will change.
It’s his scoring prowess and improved athletic ability he hopes catches the eye of those coaches.
“I’m capable of scoring best, but I can get my teammates shots, too. But scoring is definitely my strength, mostly shooting,” said Tarver.
“I’m just working on getting faster and stronger and getting in the weight-room a lot more. I’m working on my defense.”
As a junior with Judge Memorial, Tarver estimated he averaged 15 points and five assists per game.
“This year, I was more of a leader, and I led the team in scoring. We didn’t win a lot of games, but I was able to show the younger guys what playing varsity is all about — we had a lot of freshman playing up this year,” said Tarver.
“Next year, I’m looking forward to winning state, I think we have a chance.”
This spring, Tarver’s been playing Utah Basketball Club 17U, and is eager for the summer ahead with the squad.
“Spring was good, just playing with my guys from around the state is fun. This July is going go to be big, we’re going to California. I’m just looking to being recruited and getting known,” said Tarver.
Recruitment is the main goal.
“Right now, I have a little bit of JuCo interest,” he said.
Tarver mentioned Skagit Valley as one JuCo that’s reached out to him.
“I want to play Division I,” said Tarver. “But if I don’t get that opportunity right away, then I’ll go JuCo and just work my way up.”
