Prospect Spotlight: John Gaines (2021)
This AAU season has put Michigan on notice about bright young stars in the state. John Gaines John Gaines 6'1" | PG Walled Lake Central | 2021 State MI is one of those up and coming players. The 6’0” point guard has proven to be a top player in the class of 2021. Gaines plays for REACH Legends and attends Walled Lake Central High School. Last season he averaged 6ppg, 4.5apg, and 2rpg. With his skill set and the development of his game, those numbers are sure to rise.
Gaines has an impressive skill set. He is at his best when attacking the basket off the dribble. Gaines uses his athleticism and quick first step to power his way to the rim. He’s very good at drawing defenders and then finding open teammates. Gaines is a solid on ball defender as well. He is working to become more consistent with his three point shot.

He considers starting on his school’s varsity team for the first time and scoring 14 points his best moment in basketball so far. Gaines is looking forward to playing in the NY2LA circuit and nationals in Florida. He the type of athlete that enjoys watching game film and using it to improve. Gaines will be attending numerous prospect camps this summer (SVSU, GVSU, CMU). He hopes to use this AAU season to develop as a player and gain exposure.
Gaines will be a valuable addition to a college program in the future. He will bring leadership, hard work, and dedication to a team at the next level. While their is no recruiting news yet, he has been in communication with a few coaches about attending their camps this summer. Gaines will see his recruitment pick up as his game continues to develop and coaches see his basketball skill set.

He wants to have successful basketball career that includes playing professionally. Gaines realizes that he has to stay focused on his goals and excel in school. His dad provides him with the motivation he needs to be great. “My dad gives me a lot of motivation because of all the hard work he puts in so I can play basketball and the sacrifices he made,” said Gaines.
