Prospect Spotlight: Jalen Jennings (2019)
There are some players that fans and coaches at the next level need to make sure they see. Jalen Jennings is one of those players. He is a 5’9 point guard in the class of 2019. He attends South Bend Riley and is playing AAU basketball for O.W.E. Hoops. Last season Jennings averaged 7 points, 7 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game.
Jennings is a high level player with a solid skill set. He is masterful at controlling the game. Jennings uses his high basketball IQ to control the pace and feel of the game. He has excellent court vision which allows him to efficiently run a team’s offense and to find teammates in scoring positions. Jennings is a high level defender who uses solid footwork to stay chest to chest with the opposing player. He has good lateral speed which he use so on both ends of the floor. Jennings is working to improve his scoring by playing in attack mode more often.
Jalen Jennings is an experienced athlete. He was the starting point guard for a 27-1 high school team that played in the state semis. Jennings is a high level football recruit as well. This summer he will be attending the IBCA Top 100 Underclassmen Showcase and the GRBA National Championship. Jennings will be attending numerous football camps and basketball tournaments as well.
Jennings has a lot to offer a college basketball program. He will bring an unmatched work ethic and desire to be great. Jennings can provide a college coach with a point guard who has the ability and willingness to run the team like the coach wants it to be ran. He has multiple Division 1 and Division 2 offers in football, including the Ivy League and military schools. Jennings is getting serious looks as a basketball player from a few Division 2 and NAIA schools.
Jalen Jennings wants to achieve greatness. He wants “to be the model player that college coaches would want to recruit,” he said. He wants to play sports at the college level, no matter what Division or competitive level. Jennings also wants to be elite academically. He wants to earn a college degree that will allow him to live comfortably. Jennings is a young man who is motivated by those close to him. “My parents and seeing how hard they work for me. Also my family and my community, and how they all believe and help me,” he said.
