Prospect Spotlight: Jaamir Butler (2019)
Class of 2019 wing Jaamir Butler is playing well at the start of Capitol Hoops Summer League. The skilled shooter is converting at high percentages from all areas of the floor, and has improved defensively. Butler recently spoke to Prep Hoops about his overall game and more.
PH: For those that haven’t seen you play, how would you describe your overall game?
JB: “First, I’m always looking to get my shot off. My three-point shot. But I can definitely create if they play up tight.”
PH: What is the most underrated part of your game?
JB: “Definitely my ball-handling. You will only see it if someone reaches and tries to steal the ball away from me.”
PH: What is the most improved part of your game since last year?
JB: “The most improved part of my game is definitely my defense. Last year I wasn’t quite as athletic, so over the summer I’m just putting in a lot of work to get my defense better.”
PH: I heard you grew a little bit too, is that right?
JB: “Yeah I did grow actually. That helped too. I’m 6-foot-2 now, and I was about 5’11 last season. My arms are longer now so I can deflect passes a lot more.
PH: What do you think you can bring to a program at the next level?
JB: “I definitely think I can bring some energy. And the ability to knock down open shots.”
