Prospect Spotlight: Hayden Schultz (2021)
Just a rising sophomore, Century’s 5-foot-11 guard Hayden Schultz is a guy that could soon make his mark on the Idaho hoops scene.
Currently ranked 8th in Idaho’s class of 2021, Schultz is a guy we at Prep Hoops think very highly of. It’s his ability to attack the rim, and create for others that make him stand out.
“I really like putting pressure on the rim and attacking, and taking contact. I’m a decent shooter, but I really rely on getting to the rim, helping create shots for other players, and just spacing the floor, really,” said Schultz.
As a freshman at Century, he played with the freshman squad, and was the leading scorer for that team, one of Idaho’s best.
“Our team went 19-3, we had a really good year,” said Schultz. “I played pretty well. I was our leading scorer most of our games. We had a lot of guys that we could rely on, we were a good team.”
Next season, Schultz hopes to make his mark with the Diamondbacks’ varsity squad. But wherever he lands, he’ll keep the same outlook.
“I’m hoping to play varsity next year, but honestly, I don’t know where I’m going to be yet. If they play me with JV I’ll play the best I can, and if I play varsity then I’ll do the same,” he said.
Ahead of his sophomore season, he’ll spend his summer playing with one of the area’s best AAU teams, Idaho Select 15U.
“Things have been going good with Idaho Select, I really like the team, there’s a lot of good coaches and players,” said Schultz. “I’m really looking forward to the summer. I think we can do really well, we had a really good run in the spring.”
Still quite young, Schultz says he’s hoping to hear from college coaches maybe this summer. But there’s still plenty of time for that to materialize.
“I’m looking to get in touch with a lot of college coaches throughout the next couple of months,” he said.” I would like to improve my shooting and my defense. Hopefully, that can help me get in touch with some college coaches this summer.”
