Prospect spotlight: Evan Troike (2019)
JOPLIN, Mo. — Coming off a strong junior season, Girard 2019 guard Evan Troike is putting together a strong offseason and is gearing up for a big senior season.
Troike is an athletic point guard with good court vision who can create for his teammates as well as knock down open shots. As a defender, he works hard to try to force turnovers and hold the man he is guarding. He averaged 10 points, 6 assists, 8 rebounds and nearly 3 steals per game for a Giriard team that went 16-6 and fell to Frontenac in the sub-state finals.
“My Junior season didn’t end the way we were expecting or would like to as we lost to Frontenac in the Regional championship,” he says. “My role on the team was to be the leader. Also, to drive and create for my teammates, defend the other teams best player, and to score.”
Troike says he is enjoying playing with Girard this summer and is working hard to create momentum heading into next season.
“So far my summer team has been a blast to play with,” he says. “We are starting to create a great chemistry in the little amount of games we have played. I hope we can continue to grow and improve with each other to create a great atmosphere and just a great team in general.”
Troike says he is spending the offseason working on improving his aggressiveness.
“The area of my game that I’m most focused on improving throughout the offseason is more of a mental thing,” he says. “Even though I need to both perfect my ball handling and shooting, the biggest weakness of my game is being aggressive in the offense side of the ball and not shooting enough shots. I need to get in the state of mind over the summer of looking to score every time I get the ball.”
