Dowar Jioklow, a class of 2020 forward at Flint Hill, is coming off a solid spring with Team Takeover. His versatility has been a key asset to helping his team qualify for Peach Jam. At the Capitol Hoops Summer League, Jioklow is showcasing an improved motor, skill set, and leadership intangibles. The rising junior recently spoke to Prep Hoops about his development among other topics.

PH: How did your spring go? What type of development have you gone under in the last six months or so?

DJ:  “This spring has been really good with Takeover. In practice I’m getting a lot better. Every practice, every day. I think I’ve developed mentally. Doing the little things. Talking on defense. Boxing out. Stuff like that. So I feel like I’ve really improved the past six months.”

PH: What do you think has inspired you to play so hard and play the right way?

DJ: “Just everybody telling me how good I can become. I just use that to try to play to my full potential.”

PH: What is underrated about your game?

DJ:  “I think my passing ability and my basketball IQ.”

PH: I like your versatility on defense. What do you think makes you such a good defender?

DJ: “Accepting the challenge of just trying to stay in front of guards. Guarding multiple positions. And trying to help my team win that way.”

PH: What are you working on right now?

DJ: “Right now, I’m working on everything. Most importantly my jump shot, talking on defense, my ball handling, and my wing skills.”

PH: How are your grades right now?

DJ: “This past year I finished with a 3.1. I can do better though.”

PH: Who is recruiting you right now?

DJ: “I have interest from UMass, George Mason, St. Bonaventure, and St. Peter’s.”

PH: What do you think you can bring to a college program?

DJ: “I think I can bring a lot of things. I think I can bring toughness. A winning mentality. Defensively I can guard multiple positions and be a leader.”
