A stellar performance at the Grand View Team Camp last weekend has help bolster the stock of Ballard’s 6’1 combo-guard Chase Winterboer.

Not only is he set to make a debut in the forthcoming updated 2019 prospect rankings, but the Grand View coaches liked what they saw, too.

Winterboer scored 25 points and canned seven 3s during a win over Roland-Story at the camp. And he mentioned the Vikings as one program that’s been recruiting him of late.

Also Buena Vista, Wartburg and Briar Cliff.

“I’ve got some guys talking to me right now, and I’m just looking forward to continuing with that process,” said Winterboer.

“Basketball is my thing, I also run cross country and play tennis, but basketball is what I want to do in college.”

It’s his shooting ability and his court-awareness that were on full-display last weekend, and while those are certainly some of his strengths, there’s more to his game, too.

“In the past, I’ve always kind of been a shooter, and my coach wanted me to start doing more. It helps we’ve got a new sophomore point guard coming in, that will help me get my shot off,” said Winterboer.

“I’ve just been working on my defense and my footwork, it’s something I’ve been working to improve over the years.”

As a junior, Winterboer was really good for the Bombers. He led the team with 13.5 points per game, and he canned 68 3s, which was third-best in Class 3A. He also led the team in assists and steals.

Next season will be much the same role for Winterboer, with some expanded leadership.

“Last year, we had some seniors, and this year I’ll be that senior, so I just have to lead these younger guys,” he said.
