Prospect Spotlight: Cameron Bayer (2019 Eastside Prep HS)
Ever since the high school season ended, Cameron Bayer has been hard at work. The athletic 6-foot-7, 195-pound forward from Eastside Prep originally hoped that it would have included playing with his Local Hoops AAU team on the circuit, but unfortunately injury has prevented that from happening. A badly rolled ankle has kept him out of action, but that hasn’t prevented him from trying to get back into action next month.
“I should be back pretty soon,” Bayer said. “I’ve been doing a lot of shooting. I’m pretty good at rebounding and as a defensive player, so I’m working on my offensive game, getting more versatile.”
The improvement in his game is part of Bayer’s hope to increase his college recruitment. So far, a number of schools from the Division I to III levels have all been in contact. He currently lists Montana, Montana State, Seattle University, Eastern Washington, Western Washington, and Willamette as some of the schools who have been in touch.
Originally he was hoping for a good fit at the Division II level, but right now he’s open to all options. “I’m very focused on academics so I’m looking for a program that puts that first,” Bayer said. “But at the same time I’m also looking for a basketball program that will push me and my physical abilities. I’m trying to stay on the West Coast but I’m open to other schools.”
When he’s completely healthy, Bayer is hopeful he’ll be able to showcase himself in July and show prospective schools he’s worthy of a spot. “I want to show coaches that I’ve improved my offensive game,” he said.
