Prospect Spotlight: 2021 Victory Naboya
2021 Victory Naboya looked much improved yesterday for St. John’s in the Capitol Hoops Summer League. Naboya has huge shoes to fill because of the loss of Navy commit, Richard Njoku, to graduation. Yesterday in a win over Paint Branch, he looked the part and spoke to us about replacing Richard.
“Richard, he was great near the basket for us last year and he also taught me a lot of things, so this year he has now left for me to do all the work and play the type of game he did and that is what I am working on now.”
When asked on how he would describe his game, he said, “I try to fight in the paint, get every rebound, post up and you know just get a lot of paint touches. I want to be the big man that crashes the boards and do everything offensively a big man needs to do.”
He knows that this summer will play a huge role to how he will play on the court next winter, “The summer has been great, I have been working a lot and have been busy in the gym. I am trying to get better on a lot of things and you know just get better overall.”
St. John’s will be in consideration for the top spot next year in the WCAC and Victory believes this summer league will help them prepare the season, “I am just trying to get better, and ultimately just trying to do what I can to help my team win and get better, you know it is summer league just so this helps us in many ways to get better and work on many different things.”
Only going into his sophomore year of high school, he is still young and the recruitment process is just beginning but one school has already extended an offer, “Recruitment is going fine and I just got an offer from Stony Brook so that was my first offer.”
