Prospect Spotlight: 2020 DeLonnie Hunt
In our recent updated 2020 rankings we slotted DeLonnie Hunt of St. John’s at number 29 overall. Point guard wise in the 2020 class he is the 8th ranked point guard. This summer at Capitol Hoops Summer League we have gotten a sneak peak of him running the offense which will now be his role due to the graduation of UMASS commit, Tre Wood. Hunt talked to us about replacing Tre and being the next floor general for St. John’s.
“During the summer league the coaches have definitely been testing to see if I am ready and being such close friends with Tre and with that being my brother and all, it is just amazing to have him because he told me so many things to help me prepare for this opportunity and he wants me to learn through the mistakes he made while I played with him last year so he has made me develop as a better player and a better person so I feel like by following his lead it is going to be a great season and the coaches understand that I am ready for it.”
He talked very highly of how his spring and early summer has gone so far for him.
“So far it is going good. AAU is going really good, could be a little bit better but I am just working on getting better with everything and get ready for this season. Summer league has been amazing and we have gotten off to some quick starts and some good wins so everything has been good so far.”
When asked about some specific goals he has during summer league, he said, “Really to just win the whole thing and get our team chemistry way better. We have a lot of new and young guys so they need to continue to develop and it is my job to make them feel at home.”
Earlier this spring he picked up his first offer from Bryant and he spoke about that offer meant to him.
“It was very exciting when they called me. I was very excited when told me too. It was kind of random when they offered me so I was so blessed.”
