Prospect Profile: Alex Boyd (2019 La Salle HS/Oregon Basketball Club 17U)
Alex Boyd is feeling pretty good about things this off-season. The solid 6-foot-3 wing from La Salle High School has played some AAU basketball and worked out on his own, and after recently attending an elite academic camp Boyd is finding some college recruiting interest coming his way.
This spring, Boyd played with the Oregon Basketball Club on their 17U Gold team. “I feel like things went well personally,” Boyd said. “here were occasional conflicts in my schedule so I didn’t always have the chemistry that I would have liked with the guys, but towards the end of the spring season I feel like I got back into the flow of things, and we all got better at playing with each other.”
Also this summer, Boyd has also been spending a lot of time in the gym trying to improve himself individually. “I’m focusing on working on my jumper, especially my pull up,” Boyd said. “I’m also trying to keep up my strength and conditioning, as well as my on ball defense.”
Boyd recently attended the Elite Student Athlete Prospect Camp that was held on the campus of Pomona-Pitzer. As a result, a number of Division III schools have been in contact including Oberlin, Sarah Lawrence, Haverford, Colorado College, and Vassar. He’s open to everything at this point.
“I’m looking for a program that fits my style, a program that gets out and runs the floor,” Boyd said. “I feel pretty good about my interest and I’d like to get out of state.”
Boyd’s hope is that a big July will lead to more looks from schools as he suits up for OBC’s Gold squad once again. “My goals going into this season would be to keep earning myself recognition as a player, and ultimately come out with significant interest from a few colleges,” he said.
Boyd currently ranks #42 overall in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
