Continue ReadingYukon nearly made the Class 6A State Tournament a season ago. The Millers fell a game short with a young team that lacked experience. One of the biggest contributors last season was 2017 Center Cameron Martin. However, this summer Martin moved to Norman North changing everything at Yukon.
?Yukon will now look to lean on two 2017 guards. One of those guards is combo guard Jordan Williams. He has tons of potential to have a monster junior season. Williams is very athletic and depending on the offense could run the Point or the Two. With the season looming, Williams looks to make a name for himself around the state.
Williams was impressive throughout the summer and carries his new found attributes to the court with Yukon.
“I have been working on developing a better outside shot,” Williams said. “Also, being stronger going to the basket, being patient on offense using a better change of pace. Focusing on being more aggressive on both sides of the ball.”
With the absence of Martin, the Millers will look to hone in on team rebounding. Williams has descent length and strength, which is a good formula for rebounding. He thinks he and the Millers can improve on defense, rebounding, and staying calm in crunch time situations.
Williams has already proven to be a force when attacking the basket. He is creative in the lane and doesn't play above the rim, but is efficient in the paint. Williams is confident in his strengths and knows he has to have a bigger role this season with the loss of Martin to Norman North.
“I think some of my strengths are that I can turn my defense into offense,” Williams said. “I can score in a half court set also I can get my teammates going and find them when they are open.”
The Millers offense will run through Williams and 2017 Guard Vernon Turner. The young duo has great potential to be dangerous. The biggest thing Williams needs to improve over the next two years is his jump shot. The recruitment of Williams is just beginning.
Williams took an unofficial visit to Oklahoma Baptist on September 10th. He has also received interest from University of Nebraska Omaha.
With the West side of the state being loaded in Class 6A, Yukon and Williams have their hands full. This season Williams will have a great chance breakout with the ball in his hands more often.
