When it comes to shooters, there are few in the state that match the productivity of Aiden Williams. The 6-foot, 165-pound guard from Jesuit High School knocked down threes with regularity this past season and he’s been doing the same thing on the AAU circuit this spring, even after recently switching AAU programs.
“At first it was kinda weird as I switched over from Oregon Basketball Club, who I had been playing with for five years,” Williams said. “It’s taken some time because Team Fly is full of shooters and I’m a shooter – but I’ve gotten used to it. We’ve been playing some great all-around basketball.”
Williams can flat out stroke the three. He’s a capable ball-handler and can create a bit off the dribble, but he’s at his best working to get open for the catch and shoot. “I’ve been working on my ball-handling, my defense, and my offensive reads like coming off of screens,” Williams said. “I’m also working on my quickness and athleticism.”
Shooting is a skill that is always in need at the college level, so it’s no surprise that Williams has been getting some recruiting attention. He notes that Willamette and Linfield have been in contact. Williams has enjoyed the interest but currently has a different goal this summer.
“I’m wanting to get some schools looking at me in California,” Williams said. “I really like the West Coast Conference and when we go down to Anaheim to play, I’m hoping to play in front of some coaches to see if I can get a walk-on opportunity.”
To achieve this goal, Williams is hoping that a good July with Team Fly will get him there. “I’m looking for exposure in Las Vegas and Anaheim and making a name for myself,” Williams said. “I think I’m one of the best shooters in the state and I want to show that I can move without the ball, get my feet set, and knock them down.”
