Prospect Intro: Tyler Martin (2019)
South Warren Senior Tyler Martin is looking to take his team to the 4th region tournament for the first time in school history and hoping to impress college coaches along the way. Martin describes his game as being an all around scorer. He says his strengths are “3 point shooting, mid range pull-ups and getting to the basket”. Tyler also acknowledges that he has to work on tightening his ballhandling, especially in traffic. At South Warren, Tyler is playing a major role in raising the program profile, “I was really happy with our team’s season and my own. My team improved from 6 wins my sophomore year to 15 wins my junior year. Individually, my scoring average improved from 6 points per game to 20 points per game.”
Heading into July, Tyler is going to suit up for WKY Elite and hit the AAU recruiting trail. Martin actually missed the spring AAU season because he was busy being named an all district pitcher and first baseman. He’s hoping that the AAU season will help make him a better rebounder and a better creator for his teammates when the 2018-19 season rolls around. As he transitions to the upcoming high school season, Martin’s goals for himself and his teammates are clear, “For our team to advance to the regional tournament for the first time in school history and to earn a college scholarship.” Martin will be a top scorer in the 4th and with Warren Central on a downslide for a year or two, South could step up and make a run to the regional tournament. For them to get there, Tyler Martin will need to establish himself as an elite player in the 4th region.
