Nike Elite 100: 2020 Evals Pt 2
The PrepHoops Network took in all four days of the prestigious Nike Elite 100 Camp last week. It was a great chance for us to see the premier young prospects in the country go head to head. Here is part two of our evaluations of the 2020 players in attendance!
SF Cade Cunningham (Bowie HS, TX)
Cunningham was definitely one of the best players at Nike Elite 100. The 6’7” wing has a physically mature body and he knows how to use it to get buckets in bunches. Cunningham is an aggressive scorer that scores efficiently at the rim. The high motor wing powers his way in and converts through and around contact. He also displayed a nice looking jumper from mid-range. This kid is just a natural born scorer! What stood out the most was his passing as the camp went along. He was an excellent decision maker with the ball in his hands.
SF Brandon Boston (Norcross HS, GA)
It was a very up and down week for one of the premier wings in the country. The 6’5” small forward from Georgia is a long and rangy wing with an uber smooth game. At times the motor doesn’t run at its highest gear and it will show. When he is on Boston displayed an array of silky perimeter moves being able to handle and shoot off the bounce. Plus shooter with a feathery touch from deep. No question one of the most gifted scorers at the camp.
SF Terrance Williams (Gonzaga HS, DC)
Williams is a big bodied wing that struggled some with injuries during the camp. He is at his best when he over powers thinner wings running them over on the way to the hoop.
C Jordan Wilmore (Faith Heritage Christian Academy, TN)
Wilmore was the biggest player at the camp at about 7’2”. He is a little slow footed, but the kid really competes rebounding well in his area and plays hard on the defensive end. He has a nice right handed hook shot. Commands deep post position.
G Noah Taitz (Bishop Gorman HS, NV)
Taitz stood out with his passing and crisp ball handling. The 6’2” combo guard always has his head up looking to make a play. Clean handles in the open floor weaving in and out of the defense. He made a ton of outstanding passes. Some were flashy while others were just the right play. Competed on the defensive end getting a steal and going the other way.
PG Blaise Beauchamp (Hopkins HS, MN)
The Minnesota native wasn’t much of a scoring threat throughout the camp. Seemed overwhelmed at times with his counterparts on the opposite side of the ball. Thought what he did best was actually distribute the rock at times.
F Jakobe Coles (Denton Guyer HS, TX)
Coles is a thick bodied combo forward that didn’t look to pass it much playing a little selfish at times, but as much as he was converting it is kind of hard to blame him. He isn’t overly athletic, but has a feel for scoring with crafty moves and jump shots. Mixed in some runners and a pick/pop three. Plays with strength.
PF Josh Taylor (Columbia HS, GA)
Taylor is a quick twitched athlete on the interior that at times struggled finishing through traffic. Like his potential as he seemed to compete and runs the floor very well. Solid footwork when given space to work on the block.
PG Posh Alexander (Our Savior of Lutheran, NY)
Alexander came just off a plane and it didn’t seem to bother him. Once he got in the flow of the game he continued right where he left off this spring in the EYBL. This rising junior is a compact guard with plus athleticism. So acrobatic around the rim finishing multiple tough layups. Another thing that stood out was how much he pressured the ball end to end on defense with his lateral quickness and quick hands. Was limited with injuries, but made an impression when he was in there.
SG Moses Moody (North Little Rock, AR)
Moody is one of the best prospects in the country in my eyes. He is a big wing that is an ELITE shooter! He displayed just that with the way he connected on an array of threes and mid-range jumpers. Picture perfect release on his pull up. Gets elevation and flat out doesn’t miss! Hard to believe there is a better shooter in the country with his level of size and athleticism. Displayed more to his game though mixing in several tough drives and was very active defensively.
PG Keith Dinwiddie (Culver City HS, CA)
This California based point guard excelled in the open floor. Also shot it pretty well pulling up in the games that we saw. Sound and balanced shot.
SF Dudley Blackwell (Westminster Academy, FL)
Blackwell is a bouncy wing that has a lot of range on the perimeter. Plays above the rim with monster dunks and can hit open threes. Like his defensive upside.
C John Hugley (Brush HS, OH)
Hugley is a burly five man that is a quality area rebounder. Did a nice job rebounding on the offensive glass getting second chance scores.
C Jamille Reynolds (Lakewood HS, FL)
Reynolds has great size at 6’10” and 239 pounds. The center garners deep post position and finishes efficiently around the hoop. Broad shouldered big man flashed some skill with hook shots and footwork.
F Matthew Alexander Moncrieffe (Orangeville HS, CAN)
This Canadian prospect is a physically imposing combo forward that is explosive with the ball in his hands. Can be a bit wild at times, but has major scoring pop. Defensively he can be a presence blocking shots.
C Allen Udemadu (Cy Fair Learning Center, TX)
This Texas post is a plus rebounder in traffic. He grabbed them with his strong hands away from opponents. Shot blocking ability as well.
PG Lynn Greer (Oak Hill Academy, VA)
Greer is a scoring lead guard that had one of the signature moments of the camp when he crossed his man over and drilled a jumper in his face. Outside of that he flashed shooting in the pull up game and several transition scores.
SG Malachi Wideman (Riverview HS, FL)
This 6’4” shooting guard might be the premier athlete in a camp full of them! Off the charts vertical leap and he knows how to use it on both ends of the floor. What really stood out was what he did defensively with his length and anticipation. Tons of steals and blocked shots from the guard spot. Offensively his jumper needs work as does his shot selection, but he can score off the bounce and play above the rim with explosion! Needs to play more under control to max out his upside.
C Isaiah Cottrell (Bishop Gorman HS, NV)
This 6’9” post impressed with his ability to score with his back to the basket. Right handed hook shot was on point. He carves out deep post position and that makes it easier for him to score once he gets the touch. Solid skill level on the block. Very good rebounder. Runs the floor. Even hit a three.
G Tristan Maxwell (North Mecklenburg HS, NC)
Maxwell is the son of former NBA vet Vernon Maxwell. Really like how this 6’2” combo guard shoots it from beyond the arc. He wasn’t a kid that jumped off the floor in any game, but you can definitely see the pro basketball bloodlines.
SG Matthew Murrell (Whitehaven HS, TN)
Murrell got lose in one of the later games we saw in the event. The 6’2” Tennessee product drilled a pair of threes and got out for a dunk in the open floor.
SF Myles Stute (Gonzaga HS, DC)
Stute is a crafty scorer that has a thick body. He scored on some tough takes to the rim with spins and using his superior strength over weaker wings. Good looking shot from deep as well.
C Richard Springs (The Macduffie School, NY)
Springs is a five man that can block shots and has outstanding size at 6’8” 213 pounds. He even stepped out and hit a three. Mostly a back to basket post that can score on the block.
SG Antwan Burnett (Sidney Lanier HS, AL)
Burnett is a combo guard with size that loves to attack downhill. He was excellent slashing and scoring at the rim with aggression in the game we saw.
F Joshua Hemmings (Oak Hill Academy, VA)
Hemmings is a combo forward from Canada that plays at the prestigious Oak Hill Academy. The 6’7” forward has a nice combination of size and skill both inside and outside. Handles it, nice passer, and can post up smaller defenders.
