News & Notes : Coastal Carolina Team Camp
The Coastal Carolina University Team Camp took place this weekend and Prep Hoops took in the action. Lets take a look at some News & Notes from the camp.
Yaturi Bolton and Kyle Watkins both rising sophomores played well this week. Bolton transferred into Goose Creek HS from Cathedral Academy. Bolton runs the floor very well while rebounding the ball on both ends of the floor. Bolton saw good minutes last season at the SCISA 1-A school where he averaged 9 ppg and 8 rebounds a game.
Watkins a point guard is a table setter who plays at a really good pace on the floor. Watkins hit some mid-range jumper for his team the Carolina Forest HS Panthers today.
Football players on the Hardwood
JB Favorite, Tonka Hemingway, Tyrese Mitchum and Mason Garcia all play big roles on their basketball teams. These 4 players might end up having better careers on the football field.
Favorite (2019) a defensive lineman has great a left-handed shot around the rim. Favorite shows to have soft hands and likes to play on contact.
Hemingway (2020) a Conway HS Tiger DE is being recruited by everyone under the son already for football. Hemingway has trimmed up his frame and plays in the low post for Mike Hopkins basketball team. Hemingway has offers from Clemson, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi and North Carolina to just name a few.
Mitchum (2020) plays in the back field at Clarendon Hall when he is not playing in the paint for the Saints. Mitchum ran for 1,191 yards and 20 touchdowns last season. Mitchum a undersized post plays bigger than his size at time and likes to play physical.
Garcia (2020) 6’5 Quarterback recently picked up a scholarship offer from East Carolina University. Garcia will be a first year starter for the Panthers on the gridiron this fall. Garcia shows some good skills and finishes the ball well around the basket on the hardwood.
