NBPA Top 100 Camp: Isaiah Mobley going it alone here
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Mobley Brothers of Rancho Christian High are, for maybe the first ever, spending the week apart.
But that apparently isn’t going to impact how each one produces on a basketball court.
The oldest of the brothers, Isaiah, is playing with the same efficiency and production during the NBPA Top 100 Camp at the University of Virginia that he did two weeks ago during the Pangos All-American Camp at Cerritos College in Southern California.
The 6-foot-9 Mobley, who committed to the University of Southern California a few weeks ago, is averaging 9.3 points per game (despite going scoreless in Thursday’s second game), 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while playing about half of the four games that the “76ers” have played as one of two unbeaten teams in the camp.
With mom Nicol looking on here while dad, Eric (now at USC assistant coach to Andy Enfield) is in Colorado Springs watching younger brother Evan try out of the USABB 17U squad), Isaiah Mobley is putting his whole bag of hoops tricks on display against some of the better players in the country.
He’s been too clever for opponents with his variety of face-up and low-post moves, often faking them out of position and going under or around them for layups.
But, just as often, he’s lulled them with one of those moves and then stunned them by bouncing over the top of them for dunks.
The Compton Magic standout also shown the range – and accuracy – of his jump shot while knocking in three of eight attempts from behind the arc.
Mobley is joined in the camp by fellow Southern California standouts in Boogie Ellis (San Diego Mission Bay); Gianni Hunt (Torrance Bishop Montgomery); Carl Lewis (Lynwood); Drake London (Moorpark); Ziaire Williams (Sherman Oaks Notre Dame); and Jake Kyman and Max Agbonkpolo (each of Santa Margarita).
