McEachern’s Isaac Okoro to make USA debut this week
Atlanta, GA – McEachern’s own 2019 forward Isaac Okoro is set to make his team USA debut this week with the U17 national team as they travel to Sante Fe, Argentina for the 2018 U17 FIBA World Cup. Isaac made a very good overall squad with the likes of other top prospects in 2019 forward Vernon Carey Jr., 2020 forward Scottie Barnes, 2020 guard Jalen Green, 2020 guard RJ Hampton, 2020 forward Evan Mobley, and more. According to Don Showalter, head coach of the U16 and U17 USA sqauds, this was one of the toughest teams he has had to create. Other top prospects such as 2020 shooting guard Johnny Juzang, 2019 forward Khalil Whitney, 2019 forward Jamie Jaquez Jr (UCLA), 2020 wing Moses Moody, and even Georgia’s own and Isaac’s AAU teammate 2020 wing Brandon Boston did not make the final cut for this 12-man roster. Isaac and the USA U17 team will take on China in their first game at the FIBA cup on Saturday June 30th at 8:00pm ET.
Okoro is currently ranked #39 overall in his class according to ESPN. Isaac has been having a stock rising spring and summer so far and making this loaded USA squad just adds to the list. The rising senior is looking to continue to improve his game and overall skill set as the summer rolls along. Besides capturing this gold medal in the next week or so, Isaac will be looking to return to the states and capturing a Nike Peach Jam title with his Athletes of Tomorrow squad. The Running Rebels and Isaac have experience already in the Peach Jam tournament as last summer their U16 team made it all the to the title game. Unfortunately they were not able take home the crown as they fell to a talented Team CP3 (NC) squad. Isaac and his AOT teammates are looking to make another run in mid-July and to actually take home that Peach Jam trophy.
