Maryland/DC 2020 Rankings Breakdown: Stock Risers
Prep Hoops Maryland recently updated the class of 2020 player rankings. Gathering a list of players and choosing which rank best fits the individual was an extremely difficult challenge, but we do our best to keep them updated every three months. Our recent update includes a reduction in the number of players ranked from 65 to 55. Here we begin our breakdown series by highlighting five stock risers.
6’4 CG Lincoln Ball | Williamsport/Mid Atlantic Select
Pictured above, Lincoln Ball was one of the more underrated prospects on this list initially, but that was only because we simply have not had many opportunities to evaluate him until this spring. At 6-foot-4, he’s a skilled scorer who has a good feel and handle. With reported interest from schools such as Davidson, it’s only a matter of time before we see Ball receive his first offer.
6’4 SG Darius Maddox | St. John’s/Team Durant
Darius Maddox has high major scoring guard written all over him. At 6-foot-4, he’s very athletic, and has a smooth pull up jumper. Maddox is efficient with the ball, and can finish from various angles around the basket. UMass was the first school to offer him, but GW is also reportedly keeping close tabs at the moment.
6’5 SF Jamal West | Dunbar/Team Thrill
We saw Jamal West dominate as Dunbar suffocated opponents on their way to winning the 1A State Title in March. The hard-working 6-foot-5 forward, who excels as a rebounder and finisher around the basket, is showing good potential because of his versatility on defense. West’s best basketball is still ahead of him.
6’7 PF Matt Rogers | Goretti/Mid Atlantic Select
Matt Rogers is one of the more improved players we’ve seen locally, and has vaulted into our top-20 as a result. At 6-foot-7, he is a fundamentally sound big with nice touch and a strong work ethic. No offers have been reported to date, but they will likely be coming soon.
6’8 PF Paul Smith | DeMatha/Team Takeover
Paul Smith is picking up some steam since his breakout at the Metro Challenge. The 6-foot-8 forward, who has since received his first offer from James Madison, has looked solid this spring with Team Takeover. As he works to develop a consistent 15-foot jump shot, we expect more schools to begin recruiting Smith.
