Maryland/DC 2020 Rankings Breakdown: Newcomers
Prep Hoops Maryland recently updated the class of 2020 player rankings. Gathering a list of players and choosing which rank best fits the individual was an extremely difficult challenge, but we do our best to keep them updated every three months. Our recent update includes a reduction in the number of players ranked from 65 to 55. Here we resume our breakdown series by highlighting the eight newcomers.
Oumar Koureissi | 6’9 PF | National Christian/Team Durant
Ranking: 22
Oumar Koureissi is a skilled big with good size and mobility at 6’9. He is fundamentally sound and an stretch the floor. We would like to see him play with a consistently high motor in order to move up the rankings, but he has certainly demonstrated high level potential.
Jack Doumbia | 6’5 SF | Lanham/6th Man Warriors
Ranking: 23
Jack Doumbia is an athletic and long-limbed forward with a high motor. He is a good finisher in traffic, and seeks contact on his drives. We love how mobile and versatile Doumbia is defensively.
Tremaine Chesley | 6’3 SG | St. Charles/Southern MD All-Stars
Ranking: 35
Tremaine Chesley is a long lanky guard who defends multiple positions well and plays with a consistently high motor. We love that he has the ability to create his own shot and score consistently from the mid range areas of the floor. Chesley is also very crafty around the basket.
Phillip Carter | 6’5 SF | Good Counsel/District Basketball Club
Ranking: 36
Phillip Carter is a broad shouldered forward with good length. He is a very versatile defender, and has nice touch from 15 feet and in. Carter is also a very good foul shooter. 1
Benny Williams | 6’5 SG | St. Andrew’s ’21/Mid Atlantic Select
Ranking: 42
Benny Williams is close to 6’6 now, and is reclassifying into the 2021 class. He could still be growing. Williams is a good three point shooter from the catch, and sees the floor well. We love that he plays with a high motor. Williams definitely needs to add strength, but that will come as he continues to grow into his body.
Teo Rice | 6’2 PG | Maret/6th Man Warriors
Ranking: 46
Teo Rice is a high IQ point guard with good size and decent strength. He consistently make shots from the perimeter off the catch. Rice defends and rebounds well. He also has good body control when finishing around the basket.
Mike Gray | 5’10 PG | Lake Clifton/Team Thrill
Ranking: 49
Mike Gray is a physical point guard who is a good athlete, and was a key contributor to his team’s run to the state title this past season. He’s quick with the ball and scores well around the rim. We love how hard he competes on both ends of the court. Gray still needs to improve on his jump shot and basketball IQ, but that will come as he gains experience.
Wade Jackson | 6’2 SG | Gonzaga/District Basketball Club
Ranking: 53
Wade Jackson is a skilled guard who can score from all three levels. We saw him play a number of times with the JV team as a sophomore, where he stood out because he plays hard. Jackson is a strong competitor who can rebound out of his area.
