Landry-Walker’s Summer League annually hosts the best of the best in the month of June and this year is no different. Prep Hoops was on-hand for part of the first day of action and here’s a look at a few names to monitor with scores from the day.

Sophie B. Wright 60, Crescent City 52
Madison Prep 45, New Iberia 39
New Iberia 51, Landry-Walker 48
Check out Part 1 here, which focuses on Crescent City, St. Augustine and Sophie B. Wright.
Madison Prep
Jahein Spencer — 2019 6’4 G
Spencer is ready to take over as the go-to option for Madison Prep this year with Josh LeBlanc and Kobe Julien moving on to Georgetown and Louisiana-Lafayette. He got to the rim at will off the dribble and used his strength to power through defenders and finish in the paint over and over. He holds offers from Mississippi State and Georgetown among others and it was clear Spencer was on a different level Tuesday night.
Jason Perry — 2020 6’4 G
Perry should be a good second option behind Spencer this season giving the Chargers a formidable 1-2 punch. He has good size at the guard position and was able to use that to his advantage getting by defenders and finishing over the top in the paint. He struggled shooting the ball from long range but his form looks solid and it appeared to just be “one of those days” when the shots won’t fall.
Jordan Johnson — 2020 6’6 F
Johnson is a long athlete that will be able to rebound and protect the rim for Madison Prep. He made it difficult for New Iberia to get shots off in the paint sending a few back with authority and also ran the floor well, which led to a monster dunk in transition.
New Iberia
Jaquelin Lovette — 2019 5’9” PG
Lovette lit it up from long range dropping at least eight 3-pointers between two games against Madison Prep and Landry-Walker. He also buried a ton of 3’s in last year’s summer league at Landry-Walker so this is nothing new for the undersized sharpshooter.
Ralph Johnson — 2019 5’10” G
Johnson is a tough competitor who was New Iberia’s most versatile scorer on Tuesday. He knocked down a few 3-pointers and a couple of tough 2s off the dribble over defenders while also getting to the rim at a decent rate. He didn’t back down from the challenge of facing bigger guards and held his own throughout most of both matchups against Madison Prep and Landry-Walker.
Landry-Walker
Dywan Griffin — 2019 6’1” PG
As always, Griffin did a great job running the show and dictating tempo for Landry-Walker. His speed, strength and ball handling allow him to put pressure on defenses by getting in the lane whenever he needs to and he generally makes good decisions when he gets there. Griffin was likely Landry-Walker’s leading scorer and assister in the game and he always competes at a high level. He’s also expected to play football for the Chargin’ Bucs this fall and his strength and athleticism are both improving.
Jamond Vincent — 2021 6’3” G
Vincent is an explosive athlete who’s getting more skilled by the game. The mechanics on his jumpshot have really improved and he’s now comfortable shooting both off the dribble and in catch and shoot situations. His consistency as a shooter could improve but in the meantime, his best offense will come in transition or off of drives to the paint. He has a great first step that covers a lot of ground and his speed and strength allow him to finish or draw fouls when he gets to the rim.
Tory Cargo — 2019 6’4” G
Cargo is a long range sniper that’s basically in range once he crosses half court. He connected on a couple triples on Tuesday and his ball handling and quickness have also improved. Cargo has developed a hard left-right crossover that got defenders off-balance a few times and he goes up strong when he attacks the rim despite his thin frame.
Tyrus Crawford — 2019 6’7” F
Crawford will be the Chargin’ Bucs’ primary rebounder and paint protector this season after the departures of Semaj Matthews (Northeast MS CC) and Breshaun Delpit (Xavier-LA). He did both of those things well on Tuesday but will have to do a better job finishing more of his chances in the paint on offense.
