KAMO Shootout: Saturday Stock Risers
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Hosted by Shawnee Mission East, the annual KaMo Shootout has earned a reputation as one of the midwest’s premier summer events for high school teams.
This event tipped off on Friday and will wrap up on Sunday with championship brackets being played. Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top performers on Saturday.
25-Joe Berry, SF, Topeka Washburn Rural
Berry can make things happen offensively. He has a good eye for plays and is good at reading a defense. He likes to collect himself before driving, then puts his shoulder down and crashes the basket. Berry is also needed on the other side of the floor. He moves his feet well and can make life difficult as guards work their way inside.
32-Robert Kullberg, 6’4, F, Olathe East
Kullberg is a good team leader and set up shooter from behind the line. He has good form and the strength to work his way in the paint and score around the basket. Kullberg has a quick bounce on the block and can spin around defenders for an easy bucket. He also holds his own against taller forwards defensively.
13-David Brown Jr., G, Blue Valley West
A talented guard who plays both ends of the floor. Brown Jr. brings a good combination of speed and strength to the floor which translates to fast break looks, extra passes and physical play in the paint. He’s also very good at mixing it up with taller players and coming away with boards. He also plays physical defense and can get in the head of opponents.
21 — Tank Young, 5’8, PG, 2021, Aquinas
Young is a terrific athlete who brings speed, quickness and toughness to the court at the point guard position. He has terrific strength for such a young player and has the ability to get into the paint, finish plays or kick the ball to the open man. Add a 3-point shot, which Young knocked down on Saturday, and he figures to be a tough cover for opponents this upcoming season.
