Intro: Blake Peters (2021)
Blake Peters is a tough and gritty 6’1” shooting guard from Evanston in the 2021 class. He is best as a spot up shooter that has a quick release. Big time perimeter shooting threat! Moves well without the ball to get open. Tough kid that is willing to stick his nose in to get rebounds. His long term ceiling will be dependent on how much his point guard skills improve at his size.
Peters played a big role in getting his team downstate and he did damage with his shot when he got to Peoria!
“It was fantastic. Going downstate was a great experience. I will never forget that shot. Lance (Jones) and Jaheim (Holden) helped me along the way. It was pretty nerve racking when I first got out there. Never played on that big of a stage in my life, but Lance told me throughout the playoffs he though I played best when I didn’t think. I just went out there and my shot was falling.”
The other highlight of the season was making it on SportsCenter with a full court heave to win the game at the buzzer earlier in the season.
“I wasn’t having too great of a game and was turning the ball over. Missed free throw. Got the rebound and shot it. It was pretty cool.”
What does Peters feel his biggest assets are as a player?
“I am a great shooter. I think I can make every shot that I take. I am a pretty good ball handler and have gotten better as a defender over the last year. Being able to guard guys on Whitney Young and New Trier. Trying to mix it up more with drives and kicking out to teammates.”
A few colleges have been through to see Peters and his teammates.
“Illinois came by to watch us in open gym. Vanderbilt, South Dakota State, and Valpo have shown some interest.”
He is running with Meanstreets 15U on the circuit.
