Capitol Hoops Summer League 6/2 Notebook
HYATTSVILLE, MD — Prep Hoops was back in the gym on Saturday at the Capitol Hoops Summer League, where several players stood out. Here we unload our notebook from the day featuring evaluations on many of the uncommitted prospects we saw.
6’6 SF Chase Beasley | SSSAS | Class of 2020
Has grown quite a bit since the beginning of the high school season. Sees the floor. Plays unselfishly.
6’2 SG Jaamir Butler | Eleanor Roosevelt | Class of 2019
Made three treys in the first half. Shot looks consistent. Has grown three inches since the past high school season. Could still be growing. Improving defensively.
6’5 SF Christian Depollar | SSSAS | Class of 2019
Was aggressive from opening tip. Communicated consistently. Made shots.
6’5 SF Dejean Desire | Georgetown Prep | Class of 2019
Showed signs of elite potential defensively. Recorded several deflections. Blocks. Steals. Forced it quite a bit offensively. Must learn to really value each possession more.
6’3 SG Justin Graves | B-CC | Class of 2019
Showed strength when finishing around the basket. Demonstrated good shooting mechanics.
5’8 PG Tyler Groom | B-CC | Class of 2019
Quick ball handler with good court vision. Pesky defender. Can score in bunches.
6’5 PF Joe Jepsen | B-CC | Class of 2020
High energy glue guy. Can make shots from the perimeter. Fundamentally sound.
6’0 SG Jason Lewis | Whitman | Class of 2019
Showed that he can score in bunches from all over the court. Made all three of his attempts from downtown. Efficient with the ball. Scored 26, which was more than any other individual all day.
5’8 PG Olumide Lewis | Eleanor Roosevelt | Class of 2020
Vocal floor general. Sets the table. Defends with tenacity. Solid primary ball handler.
6’2 PG Xavier Lipscomb | SSSAS | Class of 2020
Strong, crafty, and vocal lead guard. Aggressive defender with good size. Rebounds. Skilled and efficient with the ball. Left handed. Can make shots.
6’5 PF Quinton Mincey | Eleanor Roosevelt | Class of 2020
Long lanky and versatile defensively. Plays with a high motor. Still developing offensively, and could still be growing.
6’5 PF Belo Oranye | Georgetown Prep | Class of 2019
Skill set is improving. Plays with a high motor. Athletic finisher.
6’0 PG Willie Rivera Jr. | Eleanor Roosevelt | Class of 2022
Skilled guard who can score it from all three levels. Has good size and strength. Defends well.
6’5 PF Rodrigo Ruiz | Whitman | Class of 2019
Very long and lanky. Rebounds out of his area.
6’6 PF Charles Thompson | SSSAS | Class of 2019
Extremely active and vocal. Has good length. Still developing offensively. Versatile defensively. Sprints down the floor and establishes early position inside.
6’5 PG Elijah Wood | B-CC | Class of 2020
Has the potential to be a high level shot blocker. Demonstrates elite court vision. Can be careless with the ball. Would like to see him consistently sit down in a stance on defense and not get beat off the dribble at this level.
