Capitol Hoops Summer League 6/1 Notebook
HYATTSVILLE, MD — We were in the gym for another night at the Capitol Hoops Summer League, and a handful of players stood out. Here we unload our notebook from the day featuring evaluations on many of the uncommitted prospects we saw.
Game 1: McKinley Tech vs. Blake
McKinley Tech
5’10 CG Daniel Allen | Class of 2019
Good ball handler. Close to being a knock-down 3 point shooter. Small in stature, but strong and sturdily built. Doesn’t mind contact around the basket. Tends to over dribble at times. Needs to become a bit more efficient with the ball.
5’11 CG Tervondre Williams | Class of 2019
Really good mid range pull-up shooter off one or two dribbles. Can knock down 3’s. Active defensively. Can handle it.
6’8 SF Woody Newton | Class of 2020
Has good size. Sees the floor extremely well. Gets others involved. Runs the floor and constantly crashes the offensive boards. Mobile, and versatile defensively. Actively protects the rim. Tends to fall for pump fakes. Must hit the defensive glass more consistently and use his size to impose his will. Would like to see him challenge himself defensively and stay in a stance while off the ball. Can make shots, but not quite as consistent as he can be yet.
Blake
6’4 PF Raymond McGhee | Class of 2019
Work horse. Has good length. Will box out and rebound out of his area. Plays with toughness.
Game 2: Richard Montgomery vs. Springbrook
Richard Montgomery
6’9 PF Miles Gally | Class of 2019
Active big who fights for 50/50 balls and communicates loudly and very often. Makes himself available for dump-offs. Looks very confident when shooting threes from the catch. Knock down shooter from 15ft. Needs to add strength so he can hold his position on the low block after initial establishment.
6’5 PF Djordje Orcev | Class of 2019
Good athlete with long arms. Plays very hard, and bigger than his listed height. Protects the rim. Can make shots from the perimeter. Has nice touch from 15 feet and in.
6’0 PG Ryan Cornish | Class of 2021
Good rebounder for a guard, and has good size. Sees the floor. Shot was not quite falling for him today, but he is known as a solid shooter.
Springbrook
6’2 PG Timitrius Hawkins | Class of 2019
Good primary ball handler. Likes to get in the lane and attack the basket. Active and alert defensively. Still not a consistent perimeter shooter.
6’3 PF Jonathan Lapierre | Class of 2019
Good help side defender. Plays bigger than his listed height. Plays with a high motor.
6’4 C Timothy Royal | Class of 2019
Skilled in the post. Demonstrates good footwork. Crafty finisher.
Game #4 Paint Branch vs. Bishop O’Connell
Paint Branch
6’5 PF Jordan Alphonso | Class of 2020
Big time athlete. Has broad shoulders and long arms. Left handed. Still quite raw offensively.
6’0 PG Richard Dudley | Class of 2019
Aggressive scorer. Strong guard with a robust build. Skilled ball handler. Can score it from all three levels.
6’2 SG Marley Sume | Class of 2019
Efficient with the ball. Can shoot it from the perimeter. Crafty finisher.
Bishop O’Connell
6’5 SG Jahmal Banks | Class of 2020
Skilled wing who enjoys making all types of hustle plays. Has a high basketball IQ. Can shoot it if left open. Active and alert defensively. Will take a charge.
5’10 PG Brendan Leverone | Class of 2019
Fundamentally sound lead guard. Demonstrates good court vision. Plays with a high motor.
6’5 SF Travis Roberts | Class of 2022
Has good size and a solid skill set. Moves well both laterally and in a straight line. Fundamentally sound. Clearly still adding strength and coordination. Has division one athleticism.
