Breakdown Summer State: Best Post Performances
We continue recapping the busy Breakdown Summer State event from last weekend at NHR today. Here are the standout big men who turned heads all day at Hopkins!
Dane Zimmer (6-7, Sr., Hopkins) – Dane continues to show why he’s a top 15 prospect in his class thanks to his defensive awareness and controlled ball skills. He seems to have grown another inch and with teammate Zeke Nnaji out he stepped into the center spot to veer all attacking chances away from the bucket. Displayed extended range from beyond the arc in a couple games as well. He just doesn’t make many mistakes and it’s why D2s are hot on his tail.
Dawson Garcia (6-10, Jr., Prior Lake) – We’ll classify Dawson as a big man here but he’s evolving into a stretch four prospect day by day with his range and open floor talents. An improving part of his game is the spot up three-pointer which he knocked down multiple times throughout the day. He also was able to catch outlets and run wide and quick to finish high above the rim alongside fellow mammoth Robert Jones. The pair will be very dangerous all season and with Garcia’s perimeter game expanding to a versatile level.
Jacob Hutson (6-9, Jr., Edina) – The Hornet big man is really coming into his own as a skilled basketball player. He has jump hooks with both hands, lower body strength to power through contact, enough speed to recover and contest shots from helpside and great instincts on both ends. Most impressive to me was his confidence and vocal presence. Hutson is getting a visible competitive edge to him and that might be the key piece to his potential as a high-level prospect.
Jon Stimmler (6-7, Sr., Princeton) – Stimmler has come on this spring and summer as a legitimate two-way post prospect with great height and an immovable base. His back to the basket game is smooth and he moves extremely well defensively. A great word to describe his play is “anchor”. That’s what he’ll be for the Tigers in his senior season, a team poised for a huge year in AAA.
Clarence Daniels (6-5, Sr., Maranatha Christian) – The Prep Hoops staff has taken a liking to Daniels with his neverending length and rebounding prowess. When we watched Clarence in the winter you knew the motor was there and the skills were still in the development stage; for a 6-5 forward he is now a much more polished shooter with very consistent range to 15 feet and the occasional three. Clarence has athleticism through the roof and along with his brother Hakim they will be tough to match on the boards at Maranatha next year.
