KAMO Shootout: Forwards (2020)
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Hosted by Shawnee Mission East, the annual KaMo Shootout has earned a reputation as one of the midwest’s premier summer events for high school teams.
This event tipped off on Friday and wrapped up on Sunday with championship brackets being played. Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top performers on Saturday.
44 — Cory Davila, 6’6, F, 2020, Basehor-Linwood (Kan.)
Davila is a strong, 6’6, 225-pound interior post player who shows good hands, the ability to rebound and defend and a well-rounded offensive game in the paint,. Davila’s play in the paint helps the Bobcats take a little pressure off 6’6 forward Jacob Coleman out of the paint defensively and his work on the boards helps the team close out possessions defensively. He is among the better rising juniors in the Kansas City area.
42 — Chandler Marks, 6’5, F, 2020, Manhattan (Kan.)
Marks is an athletic forward who runs the floor exceptionally well and has an emerging skill set, able to handle the ball a little and shows good form and balance on his outside shots. He rebounds exceptionally well, passes it and can beat guards up and down the floor in transition. Defensively he shows a lot of versatility as he can defend in the paint or switch out onto guards. Look for Marks to emerge as a presence this season for Manhattan.
13-Omar Stanley, 6’6, F, Blue Valley West (Kan.)
An athletic forward with a solid feel for the floor. Stanley can play with his back to the basket and feel his way to the rim. His size and strength are noticeable from across the gym and he makes opposing players work for everything they can. Stanley is a dominating player who will only improve the more he plays. He’s also a consistent free throw shooter when it matters most.
Samuel Suprenant, 6’5, F, 2020, Olathe Northwest (Kan.)
Suprenant has good size and wide shoulders. He’s a strong player, one can get lucky around the basket and from deep when he’s in the zone. He is a good rebounder on both sides of the ball. He fights for position and can clean up plays with opponents surrounding him.
