4 Quarters Camp: Names to Know
Early in the week we got the opportunity to drop in to see the 4 Quarters Camp that is ran by Ken Dowdy in Durham each year. This event not only helped students to sharpen their basketball skills but also helped with lifelong lessons that will be beneficial for the players off the court such as: academic excellence, diet/nutrition, and decision making. During the on court time the players participated in 5 on 5 games as well as drill work, so who stood out? Who is the best prospect? Let’s take a few moments to reviews these questions and some things we learned about the players.
Southern Durham HS 2019 Guard Jayvis Harvey: A good amount of upside and size for a player that can play the guard spot, he showed some flashes of how special he can. It seemed like the more he played, the better he played, which you love to see from a youngster, his IQ for the game is high and he is one that D1 programs have already shown interest in.
Hillside HS 2020 Guard Trey Crews: Very impressive showing from him throughout the day including the drills session. During a 2 on 2 drill he had the other campers on their feet as he pulled of a nice hesitation move and bucket with ease. The confidence he plays with, as well as playing the game at his own pace are some of the things that we really liked about his game.
Hillside HS 2019 Wing Traylen Warren: One of the stronger players in the building, he doesn’t mind physical play at all. Scoring inside the paint and rebounding at a high level are some of the things that you have like about his game. Athletically he does some things that make you say wow, he threw down a between the legs during drill work with a high amount of ease, he’s that type of leaper.
Southern Durham 2019 Guard Aqiis Horton: Without a doubt, he brought the most intensity out of any player that we saw at this camp. Although he is a smaller guard, he makes up for it with the amount of intensity and toughness he plays the game with. We saw him score the ball, facilitate, defend full court, and dive for loose balls all day long. Simply put if you want a player that is going to give you everything he has on the court, then you will want him on your team.
Hillside 2021 Forward Jayron Warren: One of the younger players that was on the floor, he made his mark on the game by using his high motor to make plays. If he continues to work hard, he could develop into a nice player overall , rebounding was one of the areas that he was most impressive.
