Prospect Spotlight: Emmett Holt (2021)
A 6-foot guard from Century, Emmett Holt has already begun to establish himself as one of Idaho’s up-and-coming young talents.
He was one of 17 guys selected to the state’s 2021 Watch List, and it’s his mix of sharpshooting and effort on the glass that has people paying attention early in his high school career.
“I try and be as good of a shooter as possible, and I always try and get as many rebounds as possible from the guard spot, that and to just be a lethal shooter,” said Holt.
“I think I can always get better at defense, I need to get quicker. And my ball-handling can improve a little more.”
After his freshman season, Holt tried out for Idaho Select and made the team, but wasn’t able to commit to them because he had already committed to his high school team for summer ball.
He’s been playing with the Diamondbacks plenty this summer, and hoping that hard work pays off sophomore year.
Last season, Holt played with the freshman squad. Next year, a role with the varsity may be in order.
“Our (freshman) team was pretty good last year, we’re a really good up-and-coming team. We only lost two games all season,” said Holt.
“And I’m not sure who I’ll be playing with next season, I’m going to see how the summer goes.”
Holt also plays football, he was quarterback for the JV last season. “I definitely prefer basketball over football, I always have been that way,” he said.
He has a sister that plays college ball at Colorado Christian in Denver. He’s hoping to follow in her footsteps.
“I’m trying to fulfill that dream, too,” said Holt.
