2020 Top Performers: South Carolina Team Camp
Lets take a quick look at some of the 2020 Top Performers from the University of South Carolina Team Camp this past Saturday.
Justin Amadi – Hillcrest HS (Simpsonville) (pictured on the front)
Amadi played above the rim all game long in the game we watched him play. Amadi recorded several dunks for the Rams. Amadi is a very quick leaper off the floor. Amadi 6’5 rebounds at a high rate on both ends of the floor. Amadi had 15 rebounds in the game we watched vs Cross Creek HS (GA).
Amadi showed great leadership and was vocal to his teammates the whole game on and off the floor. Amadi runs with Upward Stars Southeast 2020 and is ranked #8 in the Palmetto State Rankings.
Isaiah Caldwell – Heathwood Hall
Caldwell 6’4 has a grown a few inches in the past year. Caldwell has great court vision and keeps the ball on a string. Caldwell pushed the ball up the floor today for the Highlanders and finished at the rim with ease. Caldwell is ranked #5 in the Palmetto State Rankings. Caldwell was defending the post at times today for Heathwood Hall.
Kelton Talford – Great Falls HS
Talford is just consistent with his play night in and night out for the Red Devils. Talford roams the paint for Head Coach Jimmy Duncan. Talford 6’6 plays bigger than his size and tends to stay in the paint. Talford a double-double guy this season for the Red Devils averaged 19.4 ppg and 11.1 rebounds. Talford checks in the #9 spot in the Palmetto State Rankings.
Javon Benson – Ridge View HS
Benson wasn’t eligible last season at Ridge View after coming over from nearby Westwood HS. Prep Hoops first saw Benson play with Team United South Carolina on the AAU circuit Benson 6’7 now runs with the Carolina Wolves. Benson compliments Malcolm Wilson in the paint very well. Benson will be a major factor in the pieces this season for the Blazers to repeat in the Class 4-A ranks.
Terran Meriwether – Midland Valley (Graniteville)
Meriwether didn’t have a monster season last year for the Mustangs. Meriwether 6’4 is a live body but still a bit uncoordinated and awkward. Meriwether was relentless chasing the ball down and putting it back in the cup. Meriwether got to the foul line all day long. Prep Hoops had him at one-time up to 10 fouls shots in a team camp. This was the first time Prep Hoops was able to see Meriwether play.
