Weekend Review: Kentucky Teams Shine at Gibbons
This past weekend, some of Kentucky’s top AAU teams made the journey down I-75 to Atlanta and the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions. The state was represented by CKY Magic 16u, Louisville Magic 15u, 16u and 17u Manimal Elite 15u and M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs 15u, 16u and 17u. All 3 programs played well and the Louisville Magic 15u brought a trophy back to Kentucky. Here’s a look at how the Kentucky teams fared over the course of the weekend:
15u:
Louisville Magic went 4-0 and won the Black Bracket Championship. They beat Georgia Coastal Ballers 77-23, HYPE 2021 (Travis) 58-37, Upward Stars Southeast 74-68 and won the championship game over Stackhouse Elite 72-62. Congrats to the 15u Magic on their Championship run! They are currently ranked #2 in the country by Prep Hoops and proving worthy of that ranking every week.
Manimal Elite Gold went 2-1 and fell in the final four of the Orange Bracket. They beat the South Florida Rockets 79-56 and Team Swoop 70-58 before losing to the Atlanta Celtics 67-53 in the final 4
M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs 15u finished 1-2 on the weekend. They fell to Game Elite – T 47-40 in the opener then bounced back with a 61-60 win over Team Hornets Elite SC 61-60 and ended the weekend with a 76-60 loss to YSYB – Team Scholar.
16u:
CKY Magic (Morton) ended the weekend 3-1 after an opening game loss to the eventual champion Georgia Stars 43-40. They bounced back by rattling off 3 straight wins. They beat Team Winston 60-47, EOTO 66-44 and Upward Stars Upstate 62-46. A strong weekend from the 16u State Runners-Up.
CKY Magic (Robinson) also ended the weekend 3-1 They lost to E1T1 Heat 2020 75-46 then won three straight by beating UWIN SERVENTZ 61-59, SC Focus 2020 53-37 and GA Elite Ballers/GP 64-60. Another good showing for the CKY Magic- Robinson bunch.
Louisville Magic went 3-1 and lost in the semifinals of the Orange Bracket. They beat the East Cobb Playmakers 45-41, Team Coop 66-62 and Thunderstruck 62-44 before losing to the Georgia Stars 61-40 on Sunday morning. The Magic persevered with only 7 players on the weekend.
M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs went 3-1 on the weekend. They beat Atlanta World of Hoops 97-48 and Atlanta Xpress 65-54 before losing to Each 1 Teach 1 81-52 in the quarterfinals of the Black Bracket. They ended the weekend with an 87-75 win over the Tennessee Tigers on Saturday night. A good weekend for the Mustangs.

Louisville Magic went 4-1 with wins over Heart N Soul Elite 63-24, Hoops 360 AE 74-49, Sharp Shooters Elite 60-49 and Upward Stars Upstate 51-46 before falling to EAB 73-58 in the Orange Bracket Championship game.
M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs beat the Warner Robins All-Stars 64-44 before losing to Atlanta Lightning 82-77 and Atlanta Xpress and bouncing back to beat Team Georgia Magic by double figures. The 17u Mustangs ended the spring portion of their season 13-4 overall.
