UW-Milwaukee Gets a Steal in Ruffin
When you think walk-ons, generally programs anticipate those players having an outside chance to contribute down the road after years of hard working and paying their dues.
That likely won’t be the case with Sun Prairie 2018 guard Marlon Ruffin.
Accepting a preferred walk-on opportunity from UW-Milwaukee and head coach Pat Baldwin last week, Ruffin should be expected to make an impact for the Panthers.
The 2017-18 Big Eight Player of the Year, Ruffin averaged 17.3 points per game while helping lead Sun Prairie to the school’s first-ever appearance in the WIAA State Tournament. Holding a Division 2 scholarship offer from Minnesota-Crookston, Ruffin couldn’t pass up an opportunity to play at the highest level.
A talented two-way combo guard, Ruffin flew under the radar throughout most of his high school career. The 6-foot-3 senior rose to No. 13 in the Prep Hoops class of 2018 player rankings.
Ruffin joins Shae Mitchell (Lakeville, Minn.) in Milwaukee’s 2018 recruiting class.
