Top Saturday Performers Atlanta MDC
Lakepoint Sports Complex, northeast of Atlanta, hosted a primarily adidas-sponsored regional qualifier Memorial Day Weekend. Tennessee sent plenty of teams in the 17u and 15u divisions. Participants in the 16u division were a little light from the Volunteer State.
Representing Tennessee well were the following players.
2019 PG Damion Baugh (Team Thad 17u)
Reclassified to 2019, Damion Baugh is now a top ten player in Tennessee. Judging by his play Saturday Baugh is teetering towards the top five. Beyond his extreme athleticism Baugh is rounding in to an elite perimeter defender. Even shorter, extremely quick guards failed to get by Damion Baugh’s surprisingly strong body and long, dissuading arms.
2019 F Nate Bloedorn (EAB 17u)
Big Nate dominated the glass, as expected. His speed running the floor made him a true weapon. Bloedorn’s attraction to the offensive glass created countless second chances for EAB 17u. Bloedorn is a smart, hyper-aware basketball player. His court placement always looks calculated.
2019 G Carson Cary (EAB 17u)
Defensively, Carson Cary owned the game by drawing charges and poking dribbles free. The impact of his physicality really showed in the open floor. Cary got his chest in the way of aspiring dribblers, making the dribble-drive less available. Known as a scorer with Columbia Academy the broadly-effective EAB offense allowed Cary to invest dramatically to the defensive end.
2021 PG Antonio Anthony (Team Tae/FlightBoyz 15u)
Though he struggled to knock down outside the Pearl Cohn freshman guard oozed athleticism at an early development stage. He was stronger than his peers and easily blitzed past defenders at the 15u level.
2021 G Matthew Sells (EAB 15u)
EAB 15u merges many strong guards together. Without Riggs Abner this weekend wings like Matthew Sells and Matthew Schneider needed to help on the glass. Sells is a sneaky scorer. He gets off the floor well and sees passing gaps ahead of time.
2019 PG Jerriah Love (Tennessee Prospects 17u)
In a frustrating late Saturday loss, Jerriah Love of Science Hill High School recorded 24 points. Love stands about 5-foot-8, which will stunt his recruitment somewhat. Still Love invests emotionally in every play. He impacts the game in many subtle ways.
