Super 16: Frontcourt 16U
One could make the argument that the class of 2020’s identity is starting to emerge. Quality forwards, especially those that make a defensive impact, are starting to pop up everywhere. Although Ohio isn’t known for it’s size, there was plenty of bigs 6’6” and over who impressed at the Super 16 alone.
Dalton Mischal (2020), 6’4” W/F, Mid Ohio Pumas White (Beard) / McClain
Mischal, an athletic swingman, unsurprisingly provided rebounding and transition scoring over the weekend. He has an extremely high-motor and causes havoc on the glass. Although his ball skills still have some way to go, Mischal is a good passer and understands the game. He found open shots at the basket against a zone look by cutting. Good passer to shooters out of the paint.
Jagger Haynes (2020), 6’7” F, Wooster Warriors / Massillon Perry
Haynes played with constant effort all weekend and did a lot of things on the court for this underrated bunch. The long, wiry post player is a shot-blocker and tough defensive rebounder. He makes most of his impact on that end of the floor and as a passer out of the post. As a scorer, Haynes can hang in the air for tough finishes in traffic. Pretty solid athlete.
Tyler Eberhart (2020), 6’6” F, Mid Ohio Pumas Blue (Jayaraman) / Kenton Ridge
Eberhart scores with craft and hustle in the painted area. He’s able to finish through contact in traffic and makes an impact on the boards. Although he doesn’t blow you away with athleticism, Eberhart is simply a productive ball player who winds up with a double-digit scoring numbers whenever he goes out there.
Tyrique Hawkins (2020), 6’4” W/F, Ohio Hoopsters – LBC / Columbus South
Hawkins was excellent in spurts during a Saturday evening game against Mid Ohio Pumas Blue. He’s a long and springy raw athlete that finishes at the rim. In transition, Hawkins threw down a monster one-handed dunk. Then in the half-court, he showed some wiggle and was effective when he didn’t play with the dribble too much. Hawkins can defend multiple spots and would be a very recruitable prospect if he becomes a true wing and/or adds weight.
Hayden Stone (2020), 6’8” F/C, Nova (Alleyne) / Carey
Stone is rock solid post prospect who is uniquely tough in this small ball era of hoops. He changes the path of defenders with his physical screens. Ends possessions with powerful defensive rebounds. Avid shot-blocker. Stone also has skill as a passer out of the post. Stone needs to shoot a higher percentage from the free throw line, as he front-rims a lot of his attempts.
Nehemiah Benson (2020), 6’6” F, Hard Work / Lutheran East
The AAU platform allows Benson to show off skills that he didn’t showcase at the LUE this season. Mainly, Benson shoots from the outside and mid-range. He can pull-up off one dribble and doesn’t need much separation because of his size. Although the shot isn’t super consistent, there’s something to work with there.
Meanwhile, the long post player is a physical kid that plays with a chippyness. Willing screener and a frame that should be able to pack on a lot of good weight. Keep an eye on Benson if you’re not already.
