Spring Spotlight: Century’s Carson Zink (2020) Remains Focused On An Offseason Full Of Hard Work
Our latest in the Spring Spotlight series highlights a standout from the state tournament at the 4A level. Century’s Carson Zink (2020) touched on a number of things as he recently spoke to Prep Hoops Idaho.
Zink finished with All Tournament team honors after his excellent showing in the Treasure Valley where he helped his team finish third overall in the 4A state tournament. Zink also was named sixth man of the state tournament for the 4A level. There were plenty of moments that Zink impressed during his run with Century on the biggest stage, but as Zink shared with PHID, it took a lot of hard work to earn his minutes as his game continues to evolve even at this time.
“Overall, this past season was a great experience. As the season went along I earned more varsity minutes by working hard in practice and by doing my best to take advantage of any game opportunities I could get. The journey our team went on was incredible as we advanced through the district playoffs and finished 3rd at the state tournament. My personal highlight was scoring 10 points in the first half against Bishop Kelly in our first game at state and being named the 6th man of the 4A state tournament,” Zink said.
Zink has a frame to which can certainly get stronger and allow even more elements of his game shine through this upcoming junior season with Century. Zink and his teammates will likely use the momentum created off of last season’s run to fuel another state tournament birth next year, certainly a team to watch for.
As he prepares for his next prep season, Zink told us what he looks to do this summer, “Last summer I played AAU for Cache Valley Elite from Logan Utah. This summer I’ve decided to spend as much time as possible in the gym and developing my own game.”
Not a bad plan for Zink as his ceiling remains high. Specifically, Zink explained where he’s looking to improve upon, “The parts of my own game I need to work on are expanding my shooting range, improving my ball handling, and increasing my overall strength and conditioning.”
Zink added, “I am looking forward to attending some summer basketball camps and playing games with my high school team in June.”
With his excellent focus on short term and long term goals, Zink appears suited for a breakthrough junior season at Century via a hard working Spring and Summer.
