Spring Live Period: 2018 Last Impressions
Some 2018 prospects will continue to play in May, but for many, the April live period was their chance to leave a lasting impression on college coaches. Here are a few guys who helped themselves these past two weekends.
Brock Jancek (Tennessee Bobcats)- It is extremely surprising that no one has picked up Jancek yet. Coaches are always looking for size and toughness, and he has both. Jancek plays with great energy on both ends of the floor, providing an enforcer inside who loves physical play. He is solid with his back to the basket, rebounds well, and can face up to slash from 15 feet. Jancek will be a high-quality pickup for whoever snags him.
Jon Morgan (Atlanta Timberwolves)- After a strong weekend during the first live period, we saw more of the same from Morgan this past weekend. He is a dynamic athlete and does not need much space or separation to rise over you in the paint. Morgan uses his athleticism to the best of his ability also; he does not take plays off and always crashes the glass hard. He has shown glimpses of other parts of his game but his high-flying style itself has gotten him a lot of interest.
Kamron Cunningham (Upward Stars)- Cunningham had some dominant performances at the Phenom Challenge in Spartanburg and schools have taken notice since. He went for 25 points in the game I saw him, helping to will his team back from a 20+ point deficit. Cunningham combines efficient outside shooting with explosive athleticism, making him very attractive. Both Radford and Presbyterian extended offers after the April 20-22 live period.
Miguel Ayesa (Florida Elite)- Ayesa was the best pure shooter I saw through both live periods. At the Atlanta Jam, he had multiple hot-shooting games, including a game with 9 made 3’s to end the tournament. Ayesa has good size on the wing, a quick release, and knows how to get open looks instead of settling for contested shots. He’s a nice one to target this late.
